What kind of MOD is it?
『Custom Avatars』 is a gameplay-focused MOD for 7 Days to Die by JustAIter. Its standout feature appears to be the ability to replace the standard player model with an avatar you provide yourself. On top of that, it’s described as adding emotes such as dances and gestures, along with a playable third-person camera.
According to the description, it seems to be positioned as a successor to the previously released “VRoid Mod,” and you can reportedly carry over avatars you used in the VRoid version by copying them into this MOD’s folder. The author appears to provide a tutorial covering the model conversion process.
Main features
- Avatar replacement: You can apparently replace the default character with an avatar you’ve made or converted yourself.
- Emote function: The mechanism seems to be that you hold the
Tabkey, hover over a dance or gesture icon, and select it from the menu to play it. PressingTabagain during playback cancels it. - Copy Dance: There appears to be a feature that lets you copy the dance of a nearby player (please check the distribution page for details).
- Third-person view: It seems to include a camera mode that lets you play while looking at your own avatar.
Installation tips
Installation follows the standard Modlet format: it appears you extract the distributed zip and place the entire contents into the Mods folder (by default %APPDATA%/7DaysToDie/Mods). Once set up, an “Avatar Menu” button is said to appear on the character screen, from which you can select and adjust your avatar.
The following points are noted as things to be aware of.
- You apparently need to turn EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat) OFF.
- It’s stated that you need to install it on both the server and the client. If you’re playing multiplayer, it’s safest to make sure everyone participating and the server side are all on the same page.
Backing up your world and save before installing, and checking the distribution page for compatibility with your version, will give you peace of mind.
Who is it recommended for?
- People who want to play as their very own character and care about their appearance
- People who want to have fun using emotes with friends, and enjoy RP (roleplay), screenshots, or streaming
- People who use VRoid Mod and want to migrate to its successor MOD
On the other hand, since it assumes EAC is turned off, its compatibility is mixed with vanilla-leaning environments or those that prioritize official matches. It seems to be a MOD that shines especially on closed, friends-only servers or in playstyles where you want to enjoy self-expression.
