In 7DTD, the most common way to die while exploring buildings is being caught by sleepers that rise up behind you or from the shadows in dark interiors. POIs are designed to be entered “from the front,” but simply shifting your entry point can make the fight dramatically easier.
Why “From Above” Gives You the Edge
- Sleepers are placed room by room and area by area, and they wake up when a player gets close or makes noise
- By entering through the roof or an upper-floor window, you become the one who starts the encounter instead of being surprised
- From a high position you can look down on sleeping enemies, making it easier to pick them off one at a time with a bow, spear, or silenced weapon
How to Do It
- First, circle the building once and look for entry points such as roof hatches, balconies, broken second-floor windows, and pipes
- Stack a few blocks, or jump across from a nearby building, to reach an upper floor
- Once inside, don’t run — move in a crouch and spot the sleeping enemies before they spot you
- Keep a narrow hallway or staircase at your back and fight from a spot where woken enemies are forced to come at you single file
Conclusion
- Just avoiding the “front door, first floor” approach drastically cuts your risk of taking hits and getting infected
- If your route runs from the top down, you’ll naturally arrive at the quest reward room last
- When in doubt, check the roof first. This is the single best habit for making early-game exploration safe
📝 Once you get the hang of it, leaving a simple block platform at your entry point lets you reuse the same safe route on return visits or quest redos.
