The biggest highlight of V3.0 “Dead Hot Summer” is its 150 sandbox customization settings. The theme is “player agency” (the freedom to shape the world to your liking). You can emphasize the elements you love, tone down the systems you dislike, or disable them entirely to build exactly the survival experience you want.
What You Can Do
- Each setting has at least two possible values, for billions of possible combinations
- You can save your custom settings (presets) with a name
- Presets can be shared with other players
- The traditional classic difficulty presets remain available as well
The Official Presets (11 Total)
V3.0 ships with a number of distinctive official presets.
- Undead Matinee … A vintage-movie feel focused on melee. Zombies are slow but come in hordes, and ammo is scarce. Features the new “Headshot Finisher” setting
- Madmole’s Mayhem … Scarce supplies and harsh penalties. Losing your items and durability loss on death, with relentless pressure
- Almost Creative Mode … Nearly creative. A low-apocalypse mode for those who find “dying to be a hassle”
- Bite Club … Hardcore permadeath with no respawns. You get one life, so make it count
- Legacy Survival … A “2014-style” playthrough that adds modern penalties to old-school survival
- 7 Days Later … A modern zombie-movie feel. Chaotic hordes of fast zombies
- Caveman’s Life … A primitive apocalypse where tools stop at the stick
- Dumpster Diver … Turn trash into treasure. If you use it, it isn’t hoarding
- Dying World … A world where resources run dry. And so does your lifespan
- Disaster Film … Disasters pile up faster than you can repair them
- Chibi Mode … Zombies that aren’t just cute but fast. You’ll need to be quick too
All configurable options are compiled in a separate article, “Sandbox Settings: Full 150-Item Reference.” For use on servers and continuing V2.6 saves, see “For Server Admins: SandboxCode Migration.”
