What is this MOD?
(V3) Oakraven Chicken Coops is a Gameplay MOD by Oakraven (models & code) and arramus (code & quality control). You craft “Chicken Coop” helper items at a workbench and place them at your base to raise chickens. It seems designed to let you start modest animal husbandry in a ruined world, adding a more lifestyle-oriented way to play.
You can choose from four types of coops to place, and to get one running you need 2 captured chicks. Chicks can apparently be found in nests or from chopping down trees.
Key Features
- Growth system: Chicks grow through stages (roughly 60 minutes per stage), and at each stage you can seemingly harvest feathers, eggs, and domesticated chickens.
- Operating the coop: An empty coop can be picked up and re-placed. If you break a coop that is at the egg-laying stage, it returns to your inventory as a “Chicken Coop Helper,” and repairing is supported as well.
- Using domesticated chickens: You can use them as recipe ingredients or break them down for resources.
- Cooking & materials: It also includes elements such as unique food recipes and harvesting wild wheat.
- Nest reset: Nests appear to reset every 5 days (about 60 minutes per day).
Installation Tips
Because this MOD includes custom assets, it is stated that every participating player must install it in their Mods folder. The general procedure should be to place the unzipped folder into your Mods folder.
And as the most important caveat, the author gives the following strong warning.
- Be sure to install it on a “new world.” Because it replaces the default nests, adding it to an existing world is apparently not recommended.
- Once you have started playing, do not remove it partway through.
We recommend backing up your world before installing and making sure everyone is on the same version. If you have questions, support appears to be provided on the author’s Discord.
Who is this for?
- Players who want to take their time enjoying self-sufficiency, animal husbandry, and cooking at their base rather than focusing solely on combat
- Players who want to build a living foundation from the early game that steadily secures eggs, feathers, and meat
- Players who want to build MODs into a new world and settle in for the long haul
Conversely, it is not suited to continuing an existing save, or to a playstyle that frequently swaps out MOD configurations mid-game. Just keep that one point in mind when installing: it assumes a new world.
