Craft Directly from Containers — Craft from containers 1.0

In 7 Days to Die, having to pull crafting materials out into your inventory every time is a subtly annoying chore. This MOD, “Craft from containers 1.0” (author: SYN0N1M), appears to be a convenience MOD that saves you that trouble.

What kind of MOD is it?

“Craft from containers” is described as a MOD that lets you use the contents of chests (storage boxes) placed near the player directly as crafting materials. In other words, the idea is that without deliberately taking materials out of a box and moving them into your inventory, if there’s a box nearby you can consume the materials inside it to craft items.

The more you keep boxes neatly organized around the workbench area of your base, the greater the benefit — so it can be called a so-called QOL (quality of life) improvement MOD.

Main Features

  • Consumes materials from nearby chests: It appears to look at the contents of boxes around you and use them as crafting materials.
  • Works well with organization: It seems especially well-suited to base setups where you sort and store materials in separate boxes by type.
  • For version 1.0 only: The author explicitly states, “Please be sure to confirm that you have 7 Days to Die 1.0 installed,” noting that it will not work on older versions.

Installation Tips

Installation is likely the same as for typical MODs — placing the extracted folder into the Mods folder. We recommend backing up your save data before installing.

Note that the author lists as a known issue that if you get an error related to 0harmony.dll, you should try deleting that dll inside the MOD folder (this appears to be a workaround for cases where a Harmony bundled with another MOD conflicts).

Also, in this version, due to technical reasons, the container-referencing function during block upgrade/repair has been removed. It’s best to think of it strictly as a feature for “crafting.” The source is published on GitHub (IhorRomanovych/7D2DMods).

Recommended For

  • People who line up lots of storage boxes at their base and manage materials by type
  • People who want to reduce the hassle of taking materials in and out of boxes every time they craft
  • People running large bases or long-term survival who want to ease the tedium of inventory management

Conversely, for people who enjoy the very sense of “making do” that survival provides, it might be too convenient — opinions may be divided. It’s probably best to first try it in a 1.0 environment and see whether it suits your playstyle.
