What kind of MOD is this?
“Feathers” and “eggs” tend to run surprisingly short in the early game. This appears to be a MOD that tweaks things so that feathers—used as arrow material—and eggs—used in cooking—come in slightly larger batches when you loot a Birdnest. The author is moriakGG, and the category is XML Edits (the type that rewrites in-game configuration values), so rather than adding new items or systems, it only touches the numbers in existing loot tables—which puts it squarely in the so-called “lightweight” category.
Key features
According to the description, feathers and eggs are adjusted as follows.
- Common: Feather drop rate 100% / Egg drop rate 50%
- Low: Feathers 5–10 / Eggs 1–2
- Mid (standard): Feathers 8–13 / Eggs 2–3
- High: Feathers 10–15 / Eggs 3–5
Three options are provided, and the configuration seems to be one where the drop rate is the same across all of them, and only the quantity differs. Being able to pick your preferred “generosity level” is a nice touch.
Note that these quantities are also affected by the game’s Loot Abundance setting—for example, if you have it set to 200%, the description explains you’ll get roughly twice the amounts above. If you want to increase the number of Birdnests appearing in the world itself, the author also points you to their other MOD, “More Birdnests,” for use alongside this one.
Installation tips
Like most MODs, it appears to work by placing it in the Mods folder.
- Unzip the downloaded file
- Place the
BetterBirdnestLoot*folder inside7 Days To DieMods - (If this is your first time using MODs, create the
Modsfolder itself)
MODs that only edit XML tend to cause relatively few problems, but if you use them alongside other MODs that rewrite loot-related settings, the configurations may conflict. We recommend backing up your save data before installing and testing it on its own first. For multiplayer, also note that it will need to be installed on the server side (please check the Nexus distribution page for version compatibility).
Who is this for?
- Players who tend to run short on feathers or arrows early on and want to keep up a good pace
- Players who want to make exploration a little more rewarding without breaking the balance
- Players who want to pick the right amount for their playstyle from Low/Mid/High
You could call it an easygoing tuning MOD that aims to make things “just a little more comfortable” without significantly changing how the game plays.
