What is this MOD?
『Craft From Containers』 (author: aedenthorn) is a MOD that automatically pulls from the contents of storage containers near the player when you craft items, repair or upgrade building materials, reload weapons/tools, or buy coins from a trader. Normally you can only use materials sitting in your backpack, but with this MOD installed, it seems you can craft using materials that are still stored in nearby chests. It’s the kind of MOD that makes base management—where you’re always chasing after material organization—considerably easier.
Key Features
- It appears to reference nearby containers as a material source across a wide range of actions, including crafting, repairing, upgrading, reloading, refueling, and trader purchases.
- Each of these can reportedly be toggled on/off individually via settings in
config.json(repair & upgrade =enableForRepairAndUpgrade, refuel =enableForRefuel, reload =enableForReload, trader =enableForTrader). - The reference range (
range) defaults to-1= unlimited. However, since it’s reportedly limited to “the area the game has loaded into memory,” even the unlimited setting is effectively confined to the player’s surroundings. If you want to narrow the distance further, setrangeto a value greater than 0. - It’s designed to avoid containers other players currently have open, though the author explicitly states there is “no guarantee.”
Installation Tips
- Like a typical client MOD, it seems you install it by placing the MOD folder into the game’s
Modsfolder. - Note that you need to disable Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). Because this MOD contains C# code, it reportedly won’t work while EAC is enabled.
- The
config.jsonsettings file is reportedly auto-generated in a subfolder within the MOD folder once you launch the game after installing the MOD. Fine-tuning is done afterward. - The author states they only tested it in single-player. In multiplayer (especially environments that heavily use shared chests), unexpected behavior may occur, so it seems wise to consider installation carefully.
Who Is This For?
- People who line up lots of material chests at their base and find it tedious to move materials in and out of their backpack every time.
- People who want to skip the hassle of searching their inventory every time they reload or repair, and focus more on the core survival gameplay.
- People who want to toggle features on/off in fine detail to match their own setup—people who enjoy customizing via settings.
On the other hand, it may not be a great fit for people who deliberately enjoy “material management” as part of the gameplay, or those who want to play on EAC-enabled servers. It seems safest to first verify the behavior in single-player before putting it into full use.
