Securing Water — Early On, Build a Dew Collector and Let It Run; Always Boil Your Drinking Water

In V2.x/V3.0 there is no mechanic for endlessly scooping water from a river with empty jars—the basic approach is to let a Dew Collector accumulate water over time. To avoid dying of dehydration early on, set up your water supply line first thing once you’ve picked a base.

First, Build a Dew Collector

  • The materials are mostly things you gather early, like wood, stone, and cloth. Running 2–3 in parallel rather than just one is more efficient.
  • You can place them in the shade or indoors—it doesn’t matter. Production stops once they’re full, so collect frequently to always keep open slots and avoid waste.
  • Once you have some breathing room, slot in filter mods to boost output. Think of it as making a “water corner” in a corner of your base.

“Boil It Before” You Drink

What you get from a Dew Collector or a river is Murky Water, and drinking it as-is risks Dysentery.

  • The basic method is to boil it over a campfire with a Cooking Pot to turn it into drinking water. The pot is a top-priority early crafting item.
  • Murky Water also works as an ingredient in dishes and soups, and running it through cooking effectively makes it safe. Secure a pot early and you can handle both “drinking” and “cooking” in one go.

Tips for Playing Smart

  • Before heading out to explore, carry a few bottles of boiled water. Dehydration drains your stamina and performance, so don’t take it lightly.
  • Early on, players tend to “chug raw water straight from the river,” but prevention is cheaper than curing Dysentery. Make boiling a habit and your stability from mid-game onward will be on a whole different level.

Start with two Dew Collectors plus a Cooking Pot. That alone pretty much puts your water problems behind you.
