On servers running 7DAYSTODIE.JP’s original MOD (WhiteRiver Territory), once the game progresses past the feral stage, color-variant elite zombies start mixing into normal spawns. Their color directly indicates their strength, so when you encounter one you can gauge its rough danger level by color alone.
Ranks (weakest to strongest)
Listed from weakest to strongest, they are as follows. The higher the color, the more its health and experience increase.
- Ashen
- Blighted
- Radiated
- Virulent
- Charged
- Spectral
- Infernal
Since higher ranks also drop more experience when killed, once your gear and tactics are in place you can “deliberately hunt them” to level up in a hurry.
Watch out for the wound effect that applies day and night
On a hit, elite zombies inflict wounds (debuffs) regardless of whether it is day or night. These include abrasions, stuns, sprains, lacerations, bleeding, and more, and the higher the rank, the more severe the effect.
After sunset they visibly carry a melee weapon appropriate to their rank, but this is purely for show—the wound effect itself is always active both day and night. Don’t let your guard down thinking “it’s daytime, so I’m fine,” and make sure you never run out of bandages or first aid kits.
Tactical tips
- Instantly judge the danger level by color and avoid reckless close-quarters combat.
- Treat bleeding and lacerations early (they get dangerous fast when they stack).
- High ranks give tasty experience, so hunt them methodically once you’re prepared.
As long as you keep wound countermeasures in mind, elite zombies become “dangerous but highly rewarding hunting grounds.” Check the color, get your gear and healing in order, and then take them on.
