In the early game, the thing most likely to kill you isn’t zombies — it’s hunger. When your food runs out, your maximum stamina gets whittled down, and neither mining nor combat works out. That’s where Bacon and Eggs comes in: the ingredients are easy to find and it restores a lot.
Why Bacon and Eggs?
- Cheap ingredients: All you need is 1 Raw Meat and 2 Eggs. No Cooking Pot required — you can set it directly on the Campfire and cook it.
- Eggs spawn for free: You can get eggs from the “bird’s nests” found in bushes and at the base of trees. In the early game, just patrolling the nests builds up a stock of eggs.
- Restores fullness nicely: It’s more efficient than plain grilled meat, filling your belly all at once with fewer ingredients.
How to Make It and Gather Ingredients
- Hunt deer, rabbits, and chickens with a stone axe or the like to secure Raw Meat (a bow or spear lets you hunt quietly).
- While you’re on the move, loot bird’s nests to stock up on eggs. You’ll gather feathers along the way too, which you can put toward making arrows.
- Light the Campfire, select Bacon and Eggs from the recipe list, and cook. Make a batch to carry around and even long expeditions are worry-free.
Tips for Using It
- Eat it before your hunger drops below 50% to avoid triggering the stamina-reduction penalty.
- Whenever you find a nest, always collect the eggs. Once you have a stable supply, you complete a loop where “as long as you hunt meat, you’ll never run out of food.”
Bottom line: just keep eggs in stock and add raw meat. Keep Bacon and Eggs on hand at all times, and early-game starvation deaths all but disappear.
