The Tactical Assault Rifle is an automatic rifle that uses 7.62mm rounds. Since it shares weapons and ammo with other 7.62mm firearms, it makes ammo management easier for players who also run the Hunting Rifle, AK-series rifles, and the like.
Role and When to Use It
With a rate of fire that leans toward full-auto, this weapon excels at handling multiple enemies at once, and at whittling down the hordes of zombies that pour in during Blood Moon raids while holding them back. It handles well at medium range, making it an easy-to-use mainstay for outdoor encounters and base defense.
That said, 7.62mm ammo tends to become scarce, so the most stable approach is to conserve rounds against weak enemies and fire when it really counts. Recoil and sway during sustained fire can be reduced with attachments (muzzle, grip, scope, etc.), so filling out the mod slots to boost stability will give you peace of mind.
Acquisition and Crafting
As its internal name (MGT2) suggests, this weapon is positioned in a higher grade tier, and can be obtained from vendors, loot, crafting, and more. Crafting one tends to require appropriate materials and skills, so rather than the early game, it’s best worked in as a mainstay from the mid game onward.
Maintenance
- Repair: Can be repaired with a Repair Kit. Carrying spares gives you peace of mind on long expeditions.
- Disassembly: Scrapping it yields Machine Gun Parts. Breaking down surplus weapons of the same family and repurposing them as crafting and repair materials for weapons in the same category avoids waste.
As long as you can keep your ammo supply flowing, this is a rifle you can rely on for a long time.
