The Breaching Slug is, as the name suggests, a specialized shotgun round focused on “breaching.” Generally, this type of ammunition emphasizes destructive power against blocks and structures, and tends to be weaker against zombies than a standard slug round. Rather than a round for killing, it is practical to think of it as a round for forcing open a blocked path.
When to Use It
- Forcing through locked doors and barricades: When you don’t want to spend time on lockpicking or tool-based dismantling, a single shotgun can secure your way forward.
- Saving time on POI runs: Effective for clear-focused exploration where you want to shorten your looting route as much as possible.
- Emergency escape: You could also use it as an insurance measure—punching through a wall or door to create an escape route when you’re surrounded.
Using ordinary rounds in normal combat and switching to these Breaching Slugs when you need to break through—swapping ammo based on purpose—cuts down on waste.
Acquisition and Crafting Approach
The “box of 100 rounds” format is intended for bulk purchases or rewards at the trader, or for batch production through crafting. Since managing inventory by the box is easier than round by round, it’s reassuring to stock up in stacks if you frequently rely on breaching-style play.
