What Kind of MOD Is It?
“Better Gems,” created by Kotlin, is a crafting-focused MOD. It appears to add Polished Diamonds and craftable gold and silver ingots to 7 Days to Die. You can polish raw diamonds with a dedicated kit or put the new ingots to use in trade—content that slightly expands play around so-called “jewelry and precious metals.”
According to the description, the profits gained from crafting have been kept modest, and the balance is tuned so that unfair earnings through the trader (so-called exploits) don’t occur. Rather than “striking it rich,” it seems positioned as a MOD for building wealth strictly within the bounds of a healthy economy.
Main Features
- Polished Diamonds 💎 … Craftable using the “Diamond Polishing Kit.” They’re said to be more valuable than raw stones and beautiful to look at.
- Gold & Silver Ingots 🥇🥈 … New items well suited for trading and building up assets.
- Diamond Polishing Kit 🛠️ … A compact tool set bundling a rotary tool, felt wheel, and polishing compound, needed to polish raw stones. It seems you can buy it from a trader or craft it yourself by gathering the materials.
- Changes from Version 2.0.0 onward … The method was reportedly changed to melting gold and silver in a forge and shaping them using molds. You can make ingots in different sizes—10g, 100g, and 1kg—and a graphite mold has been added as a new forge tool. The icons appear to have been reworked as well.
- Polished diamonds, the polishing kit, and the 10g/100g ingots can now be looted (obtained) from Tier 5 sturdy chests, according to the description.
Installation Tips
- Operation appears to have been confirmed on V2.4. It’s reassuring to check that it matches the game version you’re using.
- It’s noted that it may conflict with other MODs that change the forge’s functionality or UI. In particular, compatibility problems tend to arise with MODs that add smelting slots (those that modify the forge UI), so take care when running them together. The optional “Better Gems Forge Plus” also changes the forge UI, so it reportedly doesn’t coexist well with MODs of the same kind.
- Installation follows the usual procedure—placing the downloaded folder into the
Modsfolder. Since there appear to be additional steps when adding it to an existing save, we recommend checking the “How to install on existing save” section on the Nexus page before installing. - Don’t forget to back up before installing, either.
Who It’s Recommended For
- People who want to flesh out elements around valuables and trading a bit, such as diamonds and gold and silver.
- People who enjoy steadily growing their assets through crafting without upsetting the balance.
- People who don’t have large forge-related MODs installed and are playing with a setup where conflicts are unlikely.
Conversely, if you’ve already installed a MOD that heavily changes the forge UI, there’s a chance of conflicts, so it’s probably best to consider it carefully. If you’d like to broaden the fun of trading with jewelry and precious-metal elements, why not give it a try?
