When it comes to the junk drone in 7 Days to Die, its main roles are hauling gear and providing healing support. This “Drone Weapons” mod (by JustAIter) appears to add weapon-MOD-slot-style elements to that drone, expanding it into a combat unit that can engage enemies.
What kind of mod is it?
It adds four types of drone weapon mods, and once equipped, the drone will automatically attack enemies for you. Ammo is handled by keeping it in the drone’s inventory, and the schematics can be obtained from loot or traders.
Main Features
According to the author’s description, the four additions have the following performance characteristics.
- Machine Gun: Fires robotic turret rounds at a high rate / suited for mid-range
- Shotgun: Fires robotic turret shells at a moderate rate / suited for close range
- Rifle: Fires AP (armor-piercing) robotic turret rounds at a slow rate / suited for long range
- Stun Weapon: Requires no ammo, and shocks nearby enemies every 5 seconds
On top of that, new commands are added to the drone’s control menu, letting you toggle “attack allowed / hold fire” and set targeting such as “aim at the nearest enemy.” Being able to choose weapons based on your needs is a fun aspect.
Installation Tips
The general flow is to download the zip and extract its entire contents into the 7 Days To Die/Mods/ folder. One thing to note: you’ll need to turn EAC (anti-cheat) OFF, and for multiplayer it appears you need to install it on both the server and the client. Backing up your save before installing is a safe bet. For version compatibility, check the latest notes on the Nexus distribution page.
Who is it for?
- Those who want their drone to be a dependable combat companion rather than just a helper
- Those playing solo or in small groups who want a boost to their firepower
- Those who want to make use of turret-like automatic interception while on the move
Conversely, it may not suit those who don’t want to upset the vanilla balance, or environments where EAC is mandatory. If you’re interested, check out the distribution page on Nexus.
